CJP announces an October 11 protest at Jantar Mantar after Delhi detentions, as affected Metro stations reopen late Saturday.
NEW DELHI: The CJP has announced another protest at Jantar Mantar on October 11, following widespread detentions and transport restrictions during Saturday’s planned demonstration in the capital.
The organisation’s national organisational in-charge, Ajinkya Shinde, announced that the gathering would begin at 10 am. Late-night reporting said three prominent CJP figures remained detained, while many other detainees had been released. Entry and exit services at all 45 affected Delhi Metro stations also reopened late Saturday.
The protest campaign centres on allegations of electoral-roll manipulation and demands for Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation. The Election Commission and the BJP deny allegations of partisan manipulation, describing the exercise as voter verification.
Saturday’s security arrangements included roadblocks and restrictions affecting public transport and access to parts of Delhi. Police detained demonstrators and organisers as authorities sought to prevent the planned gathering.
The fresh protest announcement extends the dispute into Sunday, with the release of the remaining leaders and access to the protest venue among the immediate issues.
