Delhi Police have arrested three men accused of posing as officers and sexually assaulting a minor at Astha Kunj Park near Kalkaji Mandir.
Delhi Police have arrested three men accused of sexually assaulting a teenage girl after allegedly posing as police officers at Astha Kunj Park near Kalkaji Mandir in southeast Delhi.
The incident was reported on Monday evening after the minor visited Kalkaji Mandir with a male friend. The two later entered the nearby park, where the three accused allegedly approached them and claimed to be police personnel.
Police said the men used legal and police terminology to intimidate the teenagers and threatened them with official action before separating the girl from her companion.
Police Receive PCR Call After Alleged Assault
A Police Control Room call was received at approximately 8:45 p.m. Officers reached the location and took the girl for a medical examination.
A case was subsequently registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. The survivor’s identity has not been disclosed, as required by Indian law.
Police began examining CCTV recordings, questioning witnesses and using technical surveillance to trace the suspects.
All Three Accused Taken Into Custody
One of the accused was apprehended during an early-morning police operation in the Amar Colony area. Police alleged that he opened fire while attempting to evade arrest, prompting officers to return fire. He was injured and taken to hospital.
The remaining two accused, described in reports as brothers, were also arrested. One is reportedly a law graduate, while the other is a science student.
All three suspects were traced within approximately 24 hours of the incident, according to police.
Investigators are working to establish the exact sequence of events and the alleged role played by each accused. Statements from the survivor, her companion and people present near the park are expected to form part of the investigation.
Security Questions Around Astha Kunj Park
The alleged crime has raised renewed concerns about safety inside Astha Kunj Park, a large green area situated close to Kalkaji Mandir, the Lotus Temple and the ISKCON Temple.
The allegation that the suspects impersonated police officers has added another serious dimension to the case. Authorities are expected to examine whether the men had previously used a similar method to threaten or extort visitors.
The accusations remain subject to investigation and judicial proceedings. The arrested men are entitled to due process, while the minor survivor is legally entitled to privacy, protection and appropriate support.
News organisations and social-media users should not publish information that could directly or indirectly reveal the survivor’s identity.
