Ayodhya: The investigation into the alleged theft of donation money from the Ram Temple has intensified, with police seeking the custodial remand of accused Avinash Shukla after recovering ₹20.4 lakh believed to be linked to the case.
According to investigators, the recovered cash is a significant breakthrough in the ongoing probe into the alleged misappropriation of temple donations. Police told the court that custodial interrogation of Shukla is necessary to uncover the full conspiracy, trace the remaining money, and identify any accomplices involved.
The investigation has also widened to include the role of officials from the State Bank of India (SBI). Authorities are examining whether any procedural lapses or suspicious banking transactions facilitated the movement of the stolen funds. However, no wrongdoing has been officially established against any bank official at this stage.
Investigators are reviewing CCTV footage, financial records, call details, and other evidence to reconstruct how the alleged theft was planned and executed. Officials believe more recoveries may be possible as the investigation progresses.
The high-profile case has raised concerns over the security of donation collections at major religious institutions. Authorities are expected to recommend stronger monitoring systems, improved cash handling protocols, and enhanced surveillance measures to prevent similar incidents.
