PM Modi announces free online coaching for competitive exams during his Independence Day 2026 speech, aiming to reduce the financial burden on poor and middle-class families.
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a major education initiative on Saturday, saying the government will provide free online coaching for competitive examinations. The announcement was made during his Independence Day address from the Red Fort as part of a broader focus on empowering India’s youth.
Free Coaching to Ease Financial Burden
PM Modi said expensive coaching classes have become a significant financial burden for poor and middle-class families. The new online initiative is aimed at making quality preparation more accessible to students, particularly those who cannot afford private coaching or move to major education hubs for exam preparation.
The initiative is expected to use India’s expanding digital infrastructure to give students access to learning resources from their homes. However, the government has not yet announced complete details about the platform, launch date, eligibility criteria or the list of examinations that will be covered.
Focus on Competitive Exam Aspirants
Competitive examinations in India attract millions of students every year, including aspirants preparing for government recruitment, engineering, medical and other entrance examinations. The free coaching announcement could potentially reduce preparation costs for students and expand access to structured learning resources.
The Prime Minister’s announcement comes as part of a wider youth-focused agenda presented in his 80th Independence Day speech. Along with free competitive-exam coaching, Modi announced a programme to provide artificial intelligence training to one crore young Indians.
Youth at Centre of Viksit Bharat Vision
The initiatives form part of the government’s broader Viksit Bharat 2047 vision, which places education, technology, skills and employment opportunities at the centre of India’s development strategy.
For students and competitive-exam aspirants, the proposed free online coaching programme could provide an important alternative to expensive private coaching. Further details regarding the courses, teachers, study material and registration process are expected to be announced by the government.
