New Delhi: The Lok Sabha was adjourned until 11 AM on Tuesday after persistent protests by Opposition parties over the NEET controversy disrupted proceedings during the Monsoon Session of Parliament 2026.
Soon after the House assembled, Opposition MPs raised slogans and demanded an immediate discussion on issues related to the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET), alleging irregularities and seeking accountability from the government. The protests prevented the scheduled legislative business from proceeding smoothly.
Speaker Om Birla repeatedly appealed to members to maintain order and allow the House to function. However, the continued uproar forced the Chair to adjourn the proceedings for the day.
The government maintained that it is prepared to discuss important issues in accordance with parliamentary rules while urging Opposition parties to cooperate and ensure the smooth functioning of Parliament. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju also appealed to all political parties to participate in constructive debates instead of disrupting the House.
Meanwhile, the Rajya Sabha also witnessed heated exchanges over several national issues, with Opposition leaders pressing for discussions on the NEET matter and other public concerns. Parliamentary proceedings in both Houses are expected to remain politically charged as the Monsoon Session continues.
The Monsoon Session is scheduled to consider several important Bills and hold discussions on key policy matters, making consensus between the government and the Opposition crucial for legislative progress.
With the NEET issue continuing to dominate the political agenda, all eyes will now be on Tuesday’s proceedings to see whether normal business resumes or further disruptions take place.
