A reported power bank fire diverted IndiGo flight 6E 6115 from Delhi–Chennai to Hyderabad. The aircraft landed safely, with everyone reported safe.
HYDERABAD: An IndiGo flight from Delhi to Chennai was diverted to Hyderabad on Sunday, October 11, after a power bank reportedly caught fire inside an overhead luggage compartment.
Flight 6E 6115 landed safely at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport. Cabin crew extinguished the fire, and all passengers and crew were reported safe.
Crew Brings Situation Under Control
Preliminary reporting said the crew used a fire extinguisher to contain the blaze before the aircraft made its diversion.
IndiGo confirmed that smoke came from a passenger’s personal electronic device and that crew members brought the situation under control.
A passenger-recorded video showed flames near the overhead luggage area and people attempting to put them out. The exact time and location of the incident during the journey remained unconfirmed in the available report.
Alternate Aircraft Arranged
The aircraft had departed Delhi at approximately 1:30 pm and was originally scheduled to reach Chennai at 4 pm.
Following the diversion, an alternate aircraft was arranged to continue the passengers’ journey. IndiGo said it was providing refreshments and updates to affected travellers.
While reports identified a power bank as the source of the fire, the airline’s statement referred more broadly to a personal electronic device. A detailed technical explanation of the reported malfunction was not available.
