Bollywood star and singer Nora Fatehi is set to take centre stage at the FIFA World Cup opening ceremony in Toronto, where she will perform the tournament’s official anthem, Siir Siir, a song she hopes will promote unity, celebration and cultural representation across the globe.
The Canadian-born artist of Moroccan descent said the World Cup offers a unique platform to bring people together through music and sport, highlighting diversity and multiculturalism on a global stage.
“This is the time where we celebrate talent, and music and football really do come hand in hand,” Fatehi said ahead of her performance.
The song Siir Siir, which translates to “Go, Go,” was inspired by a popular Moroccan football chant and is intended to become a rallying cry for fans and teams participating in the tournament.
A Homecoming Moment for Nora Fatehi
For Fatehi, the performance carries special significance as it marks a return to her hometown of Toronto more than a decade after leaving Canada to pursue a career in India’s entertainment industry.
Having established herself as one of Bollywood’s most recognizable performers, she described the opportunity as both emotional and inspiring.
Calling her journey a story of resilience and ambition, Fatehi said she hopes her success encourages others to chase their dreams regardless of obstacles.
World Cup Anthem Celebrates Global Culture
Created in collaboration with Vegedream and Sanjoy, Siir Siir blends Moroccan Darija, Arabic, French and English, reflecting the multicultural spirit of the FIFA World Cup.
The music video, filmed across Morocco, showcases football’s journey from local streets and neighbourhoods to the world’s biggest sporting arenas, mirroring Fatehi’s own rise from aspiring artist to international performer.
Fatehi revealed that the idea for the song emerged after hearing thousands of fans chant “Siir Siir” during the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) hosted by Morocco earlier this year.
Star-Studded FIFA World Cup Soundtrack
Fatehi joins an impressive lineup of global artists contributing to the official FIFA World Cup soundtrack. The 18-track playlist features major names including Shakira, Burna Boy, Stormzy, The Rolling Stones and Future.
Shakira and Burna Boy recently performed their World Cup track Dai Dai at the tournament’s opening ceremony in Mexico, while several other artists have released football-inspired anthems to celebrate the competition.
Backing Morocco for World Cup Success
As the tournament gets underway, Fatehi says she will be supporting Morocco and believes the team has the potential to make a significant impact.
She praised Morocco’s resilience and determination, expressing confidence that the nation could emerge as one of the tournament’s standout teams.
With Siir Siir set to be heard by millions of football fans worldwide, Fatehi hopes the song will symbolize unity, cultural pride and the shared passion that connects people through the beautiful game.
