Mumbai: The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has granted an adults-only ‘A’ certificate to Cocktail 2, clearing the much-anticipated romantic drama for release on June 19, 2026. The film has a runtime of 150 minutes, making it slightly longer than the original 2012 hit Cocktail.
The adult rating restricts the film to viewers aged 18 and above, marking a significant milestone for its lead cast. For Kriti Sanon, Cocktail 2 becomes the first A-rated film of her career, while Rashmika Mandanna adds a second adults-only title after the blockbuster Animal (2023). Shahid Kapoor, meanwhile, records his fifth A-rated film following Kaminey, Udta Punjab, Kabir Singh, and O’Romeo.
Directed by Homi Adajania and produced by Dinesh Vijan, Cocktail 2 is described as a spiritual sequel to the 2012 romantic comedy-drama. While it retains the essence and emotional tone of the original, the sequel introduces a fresh storyline, new characters, and a contemporary love triangle featuring Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon, and Rashmika Mandanna.
Speaking about the film’s concept, director Homi Adajania revealed that the idea emerged from casual conversations on set, eventually evolving into a story centered around the chemistry between the lead characters and an unconventional relationship dynamic.
The film also brings back elements of nostalgia, including the popular track Tum Hi Ho Bandhu, while introducing a new soundtrack designed to appeal to younger audiences. Four promotional songs—Jab Talak, Mashooqa, Tujhko, and Vallah—have already been released and are generating strong buzz online.
Advance bookings for Cocktail 2 opened on June 14 and have received encouraging responses from fans. A special premiere is scheduled in Delhi on June 18, with the lead cast, director Homi Adajania, producer Dinesh Vijan, and members of the music team expected to attend.
Despite the A certification potentially limiting its audience reach, industry observers believe the film’s strong brand recall, popular music, and star-studded cast could help it perform well at the box office.
With its blend of romance, drama, and modern relationships, Cocktail 2 aims to recreate the charm of the original while offering a fresh cinematic experience for a new generation of viewers.
