Apple has introduced the Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4, bringing a new Health Sensing System, the S11 chip, faster charging and expanded Apple Intelligence features to its smartwatch lineup.
Both models are available for pre-order in India and will go on sale beginning September 18, 2026.
Apple Watch Series 12: Health and Fitness Upgrades
The Apple Watch Series 12 features redesigned optical and electrical heart sensors that measure heart rate every five seconds throughout the day. Apple says the system delivers its most accurate heart-rate sensing in a wearable.
Heart-rate variability, an indicator commonly used to assess stress and recovery, can now be measured up to 24 times more frequently. The Vitals app also gains separate daytime and overnight views.
A new Readiness feature analyses recent activity, training load, sleep and health measurements to generate a daily score from zero to 10. Users receive recommendations such as Recover, Pace Yourself, Ready or Go For It.
The watch retains health and safety functions including ECG, sleep tracking, sleep-apnoea notifications, wrist-temperature sensing, Fall Detection, Crash Detection and Emergency SOS. Feature availability may vary by country and regulatory approval.
New S11 Chip and Apple Intelligence
Apple’s S11 chip powers the upgraded health sensors and new Audio Intelligence features. These include Live Rewind, Siri Recap, faster Shazam and Sound Recognition.
Siri AI on Apple Watch can use personal context and broader knowledge when paired with a compatible Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone. Some Audio Intelligence functions will arrive in beta later in 2026 and may initially be limited by language or region.
The Series 12 is available in 42mm and 46mm sizes with aluminium, titanium or ceramic cases. Aluminium versions use Ceramic Shield 2, which Apple says is 60% tougher than the Ion-X glass on the previous generation.
Apple claims up to 24 hours of regular battery life and up to 38 hours in Low Power Mode. A 15-minute charge can provide up to 12 additional hours of use.
Prices for the Apple Watch Series 12 in India start at ₹56,900, according to the Apple India Store.
Apple Watch Ultra 4 Targets Athletes and Adventurers
The Apple Watch Ultra 4 uses a 49mm titanium case and is offered in natural and black finishes. Its Always-On Retina display reaches up to 3,000 nits of brightness.
Designed for endurance sports and outdoor activities, the watch includes precision dual-frequency GPS, a customisable Action button, a siren, a depth gauge and a water-temperature sensor. It is water-resistant to 100 metres and supports recreational scuba diving to a depth of 40 metres.
Apple claims up to 50 hours of everyday battery life and as much as 84 hours in Low Power Mode. Its Max Extended Workout setting can record selected outdoor activities for up to 45 hours while continuing to take GPS readings every second.
A 15-minute charge can add up to 18 hours of battery life. The Ultra 4 also supports satellite-based Emergency SOS, Find My and Messages in eligible regions.
The Apple Watch Ultra 4 starts at ₹1,09,900 in India. Full technical details are available in Apple’s official announcement.
Both watches require an iPhone 11 or later running iOS 27. They ship with watchOS 27 and support 5G connectivity on compatible cellular models.
