Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to Kargil heroes on Kargil Vijay Diwas, highlighted India’s growing defence capabilities, indigenous military production, and rising global trust in Indian defence technology.
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid heartfelt tributes to the soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice during the 1999 Kargil War, saying Kargil Vijay Diwas is a reminder of the unmatched courage, determination, and patriotism displayed by India’s armed forces.
Addressing the 136th episode of ‘Mann Ki Baat’, the Prime Minister said India is steadily strengthening its defence capabilities and is emerging as a trusted global defence partner through indigenous manufacturing and advanced military technologies.
PM Modi Salutes Kargil Heroes
Recalling the bravery of Indian soldiers during the Kargil conflict, PM Modi said the country’s armed forces overcame harsh weather, difficult terrain, and enemy challenges with unwavering determination.
He paid homage to the martyrs and veterans who safeguarded the nation’s sovereignty during Operation Vijay, calling their sacrifice an enduring source of inspiration for every Indian.
‘Shaurya Vijay Yatra’ Honours Brave Soldiers
The Prime Minister also highlighted the ongoing Shaurya Vijay Yatra, a motorcycle expedition that began on July 14 from the National War Memorial in New Delhi and will conclude at the Kargil War Memorial in Drass.
The yatra carries the message “One Ride, One Nation, One Salute,” honouring the sacrifices of India’s armed forces and promoting national unity.
India Strengthening Indigenous Defence
Emphasising the success of the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative, PM Modi pointed to several recent milestones in India’s defence sector.
He highlighted the commissioning of INS Mahendragiri, the sixth Project 17A Nilgiri-class stealth frigate, noting that the warship has been designed and built in India with more than 75% indigenous content.
The advanced frigate is equipped for anti-air, anti-surface, anti-submarine warfare, maritime security, humanitarian assistance, and disaster relief operations.
DRDO Achieves Major Milestones
The Prime Minister also praised the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) for successfully testing:
- Pinaka Long Range Guided Rocket
- Kusha Missile System
He credited Indian scientists and engineers for advancing indigenous defence technologies that strengthen national security.
Defence Exports Continue to Grow
PM Modi said India’s defence production, exports, and strategic cooperation with friendly nations continue to expand.
He referred to his recent visit to Indonesia, where significant agreements related to the BrahMos and Astra missile systems were signed, adding that global confidence in India’s defence technology is steadily increasing.
Kargil Vijay Diwas
Observed every year on July 26, Kargil Vijay Diwas commemorates India’s victory in the 1999 Kargil War and honours the courage and sacrifice of soldiers who laid down their lives while protecting the nation’s borders.
The day serves as a reminder of the dedication and bravery of the Indian Armed Forces and reinforces the country’s commitment to strengthening national security through indigenous defence capabilities.
