Bharat Tex 2026 highlighted India’s ambition to position its handloom and textile industry on the global stage, with fashion designer Vaishali S advocating innovation, sustainability, and global branding while preserving India’s rich craft heritage.
New Delhi: Bharat Tex 2026 has emerged as a major platform showcasing India’s ambition to transform its traditional textile and handloom sector into a global luxury brand while preserving its centuries-old craftsmanship.
Renowned fashion designer Vaishali Shadangule (Vaishali S) said the true strength of Indian textiles lies in maintaining their authentic craftsmanship while presenting them in a contemporary way for international audiences.
Preserve the Craft, Modernise the Presentation
Speaking about the future of Indian fashion, Vaishali S emphasized that the essence of Indian textiles—including handloom weaving, natural fibres, artisan skills, and traditional craftsmanship—must remain unchanged.
However, she said the way these products are designed, styled, marketed, and presented should evolve to meet the expectations of today’s global consumers.
According to her, international buyers are looking for innovation, sustainability, and luxury, making Indian handloom uniquely positioned in the global fashion industry.
Handloom Innovation Through Collaboration
Vaishali S explained that her couture collections begin at the loom, where designers and artisans collaborate to create innovative weaving techniques without compromising traditional craftsmanship.
She stressed that artisans should be treated as creative partners and fairly compensated for their work, helping preserve India’s rich textile heritage while creating globally competitive products.
Bharat Tex 2026 Highlights India’s Textile Growth
Held at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, Bharat Tex 2026 brought together policymakers, designers, manufacturers, global brands, buyers, and industry experts through more than 100 knowledge sessions focused on the future of India’s textile sector.

Focus on Sustainability and Traceability
The designer highlighted sustainability, artisan empowerment, and blockchain-based traceability as key priorities for India’s textile industry.
She said transparent supply chains and better recognition for artisans would strengthen India’s reputation in global luxury fashion while promoting ethical manufacturing practices.
Government Push for Global Textile Leadership
During the event, the Union Textiles Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to improving quality standards, supporting artisans, MSMEs, and designers, and strengthening India’s position as a leading global textile hub.
Officials also outlined several initiatives aimed at promoting innovation, exports, and sustainable growth across the textile value chain.
India’s Textile Story Goes Global
Vaishali S said Bharat Tex 2026 reflects India’s growing confidence in taking its craftsmanship to international markets without compromising its cultural identity.
