Washington, D.C. : US President Donald Trump has dismissed reports suggesting that the United States is facing a shortage of military munitions amid ongoing tensions with Iran, insisting that the country’s defence stockpiles remain more than sufficient for any military operation.
Speaking to The Wall Street Journal, Trump rejected concerns that dwindling interceptor inventories could limit America’s military capabilities.
“We have far more munitions than anyone in the world, and far more than we need,” Trump said.
Reports Raise Concerns Over Interceptor Stockpiles
Trump’s remarks come after reports by The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal indicated that senior US military officials had expressed concerns over declining inventories of Patriot and THAAD missile interceptors due to continued military operations in the Middle East.
According to the reports, General Dan Caine, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, warned that an expanded military campaign against Iran could significantly strain US air defence resources deployed across the region.
Pentagon Says Military Remains Prepared
Despite reports of inventory pressure, White House officials and Pentagon spokespersons have maintained that the US military possesses all the resources necessary to carry out any mission ordered by the President.
Officials also declined to release updated figures on Patriot and THAAD missile usage, citing national security concerns.
Analysts Estimate Heavy Missile Usage
Independent estimates from analysts at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) suggest that approximately 1,500 Patriot interceptors have been used since the conflict escalated, potentially leaving fewer than 1,000 interceptors in reserve.
The analysts cautioned that prolonged conflicts with advanced military powers could consume missile inventories at an even faster pace.
Iran Conflict Keeps Regional Tensions High
The debate over US military stockpiles comes as tensions with Iran remain elevated. Reports indicate that Iran continues to adapt its missile tactics by altering flight paths and speeds, increasing the demand for sophisticated missile defence systems.
Recent attacks on US military facilities in Jordan and continued regional instability have further intensified discussions over America’s defence readiness.
