In a major political development in Karnataka, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah submitted his resignation on Thursday to the Governor’s Special Secretary at Lok Bhavan, Bengaluru, paving the way for Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over as the state’s next Chief Minister.
The resignation was formally received by Special Secretary Prabhu Shankar in the absence of Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, who is currently in his hometown Indore for personal reasons.
Confirming the development, Prabhu Shankar said, “I have received the resignation, but it will be accepted by the Governor.”
Cabinet Colleagues Accompany Siddaramaiah
Siddaramaiah was accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar and several cabinet colleagues while submitting his resignation at Lok Bhavan.
Earlier in the day, during a breakfast meeting hosted at his residence for cabinet ministers, Siddaramaiah informed them of his decision to step down.
According to sources, he also conveyed that DK Shivakumar has been chosen as his successor, following directions from the Congress high command.
High-Level Congress Meetings in Delhi
The political transition comes amid crucial meetings in Delhi, where Siddaramaiah met senior Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge to discuss the leadership change and Karnataka’s political roadmap.
The leadership reshuffle is being seen as a strategic move by the Congress to maintain internal balance and strengthen its position in Karnataka ahead of key political developments.
DK Shivakumar Likely to Take Oath Soon
With the resignation now submitted, all eyes are on the Governor’s formal acceptance and the official announcement regarding DK Shivakumar’s swearing-in ceremony.
The transition marks a significant shift in Karnataka’s political landscape and is expected to influence the state’s governance and Congress party strategy in the coming months.
