New Delhi: A light-hearted “jhalmuri moment” became one of the highlights of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) meeting in New Delhi as Prime Minister Narendra Modi completed 12 years in office and surpassed Jawaharlal Nehru’s record as India’s longest continuously serving elected Prime Minister.
During the gathering, West Bengal Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari was seen serving the popular Bengali snack, jhalmuri, to Prime Minister Modi. The moment was captured in a video later shared by the Prime Minister on his official social media account.
The video showed PM Modi enjoying the traditional snack and encouraging the vendor to serve other NDA leaders present at the event. Several leaders, including BJP President Nitin Nabin, were also seen tasting the popular street food.
Jhalmuri’s Political Connection
Jhalmuri has held symbolic importance for the BJP in West Bengal politics. The snack gained national attention during previous election campaigns when PM Modi made an unscheduled stop to enjoy jhalmuri while campaigning in the state.
Known for its spicy flavor, the snack became a cultural and political symbol during the West Bengal Assembly elections, representing regional identity as well as the intensity of the political contest.
NDA Marks Historic Milestone
The NDA meeting was organized to commemorate 12 years of the alliance government at the Centre and celebrate PM Modi’s record-breaking tenure.
On June 10, Narendra Modi surpassed the tenure of India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, who served 4,399 days as an elected Prime Minister after the first general elections.
While former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi spent more than 14 years in office overall, her tenure was not continuous, making Modi the longest continuously serving elected Prime Minister in India’s history.
Focus on Future Roadmap
According to sources, the NDA was expected to adopt a resolution congratulating PM Modi on the milestone. Discussions at the meeting reportedly focused on the government’s achievements over the past 12 years, future policy priorities, and the alliance’s political strategy ahead of upcoming elections.
The informal jhalmuri interaction added a touch of warmth to an otherwise significant political event, drawing attention across social media platforms.
