New Delhi, August 3: India wrapped up a successful campaign at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow, finishing fourth in the overall medal standings with an impressive haul of 64 medals. The strong performance showcased India’s growing dominance across multiple sporting disciplines and marked one of the country’s best-ever overseas Commonwealth Games campaigns.
According to the final medal tally, India secured 24 Gold, 21 Silver, and 19 Bronze medals, with athletes excelling in athletics, wrestling, weightlifting, boxing, badminton, shooting, table tennis, and para sports.
Congratulating the contingent, Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya praised the athletes, coaches, and support staff for their outstanding performances and dedication throughout the Games. He said the achievements reflect India’s rising stature in international sports and inspire the next generation of athletes.
Indian Stars Shine in Glasgow
Several Indian athletes delivered memorable performances during the Games:
- Arundhati Choudhary won Gold in the Women’s 70kg Weightlifting event.
- Murali Sreeshankar claimed Silver in the Men’s Long Jump with a best leap of 8.09 metres.
- Indian wrestlers continued their dominance by winning multiple medals across freestyle and Greco-Roman categories.
- The country’s badminton, boxing, athletics, shooting, and para-sports teams also contributed significantly to the overall medal tally with several podium finishes.
Focus Shifts to Ahmedabad 2030
A major highlight of the closing ceremony was the official handover of the Commonwealth Games baton to India, symbolizing the country’s preparations to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
