Abhishek Sharma hits five sixes against West Indies in Indore, reaching 68 in 2026 and equalling Suryakumar Yadav’s T20I record.
INDORE: Abhishek Sharma equalled Suryakumar Yadav’s calendar-year six-hitting record for batters from Full Member teams during India’s third T20 International against West Indies on Sunday, October 11.
The left-handed opener struck five sixes in a rapid 69 off 30 balls, taking his tally to 68 T20I sixes in 2026. He matched Suryakumar’s total from 2022, adding another milestone to his aggressive international batting campaign.
Boundary Hitting Drives India’s Start
Abhishek’s innings included six fours alongside his five sixes. Together, those boundaries contributed 54 runs—more than three-quarters of his total—and helped India establish early momentum at Holkar Stadium.
His 69 came at a strike rate of 230. The innings ended when Shamar Springer dismissed him caught and bowled, giving West Indies an important breakthrough after the opener’s attacking display.
India eventually finished on 223, setting West Indies a target of 224. Ishan Kishan contributed 37, while Tilak Varma, Nitish Reddy and Axar Patel also added useful runs.
Record Applies to Full Member Teams
The distinction concerns the most sixes in a calendar year in men’s T20Is among players representing ICC Full Member teams. Abhishek equalled the mark; he did not surpass Suryakumar’s 68 with this innings.
The performance combined a notable individual achievement with a substantial contribution to India’s total. With five maximums in one knock, Abhishek demonstrated the boundary-hitting approach that has become a defining feature of his role at the top of the order.
