Helsinki, Finland: Smart ring leader Oura has unveiled its latest wearable, the Oura Ring 5, featuring a significantly slimmer design, improved health-tracking capabilities, and longer battery life as competition in the smart ring market intensifies.
The company announced that its newest smart ring is approximately 40% thinner than previous models, achieved through a complete redesign of its internal components, including the battery, sensors, optics, electronics, and mechanical systems.
Despite its smaller size, Oura claims the Ring 5 delivers enhanced performance, offering more accurate health monitoring and extended battery life. The wearable also introduces several new features, including improved activity detection for low-impact exercises such as Pilates, GLP-1 medication tracking, and advanced health insights.
Oura Expands Into AI-Powered Health Guidance
In addition to hardware upgrades, Oura is partnering with healthcare platform Counsel Health to provide optional AI-powered health guidance. The service is expected to be offered as an add-on to Oura’s existing subscription plan, which currently costs $6 per month. Pricing details for the AI service have not yet been disclosed.
Oura Strengthens Position in Growing Smart Ring Market
Founded in Finland, Oura has established itself as the dominant player in the smart ring industry since launching its first product in 2015. The company primarily focuses on smart rings and related accessories, building a strong user base through health, sleep, and fitness tracking features.
Oura’s growth has accelerated in recent years. Following a funding round led by Fidelity Management & Research, the company achieved an estimated valuation of $11 billion and expects to surpass 5 million paid members by the end of the current quarter.
The launch also comes shortly after Oura confidentially filed for an initial public offering (IPO), increasing pressure to maintain growth momentum and defend its market leadership.
Competition Heats Up as Rivals Launch New Devices
The Oura Ring 5 arrives sooner than expected, with the company shortening its traditional product cycle. While nearly three years passed between the Ring 3 and Ring 4, the new model launches roughly 18 months after its predecessor.
The timing coincides with increased competition from rival smart ring brands. RingConn recently began shipping its Gen 3 smart ring, while Ultrahuman is preparing to launch its Ring Pro model.
Industry analysts note that Ultrahuman previously gained market share in the United States before legal challenges from Oura led to restrictions on certain product shipments. However, Ultrahuman is now attempting a comeback after receiving regulatory clearance for its latest device.
Smart Ring Market Continues Rapid Expansion
As consumer demand for discreet health-tracking wearables grows, Oura’s latest product launch highlights the intensifying race among smart ring manufacturers to deliver more advanced health monitoring, AI-powered wellness tools, and longer-lasting battery performance in increasingly compact designs.
