PM Narendra Modi launched development projects worth over ₹35,000 crore in Vadodara and dedicated three Western Dedicated Freight Corridor sections to the nation.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated, dedicated and laid the foundation stones for development projects worth more than ₹35,000 crore in Vadodara, Gujarat, on September 8, 2026.
The programme’s principal highlight was the inauguration of three sections of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor: New Sanand–New Makarpura, New Umbergaon–New Saphale and New Saphale–New JNPT.
Constructed for more than ₹20,700 crore, the three stretches cover 326 route kilometres. Their commissioning completes India’s 2,843-kilometre operational Dedicated Freight Corridor network, comprising the eastern and western corridors. The network is currently handling approximately 443 freight trains each day.
Direct connectivity to Jawaharlal Nehru Port is expected to accelerate the movement of export-import cargo, improve links between ports and industrial centres, reduce logistics costs and ease pressure on the conventional railway network around Mumbai.
The Prime Minister also dedicated the newly constructed Jobat–Tanda Road railway line, developed under the Chhota Udepur–Dhar project. The line is intended to improve rail connectivity for tribal communities in Madhya Pradesh’s Alirajpur district.
Foundation stones were laid for three railway projects covering approximately 329 kilometres and involving an investment of more than ₹9,700 crore. Several national-highway projects worth around ₹1,780 crore were also included in the infrastructure package.
Gujarat government projects valued at approximately ₹2,600 crore formed another part of the programme. These reportedly include the second phase of the Vadodara Ring Road and a 110-megawatt floating solar-power project at Kadana Dam.
Addressing the gathering, Modi described the completion of the freight-corridor network as a historic achievement for 21st-century India. He said stronger railway, road, port and energy infrastructure would improve connectivity, support industries and accelerate economic development.
