New Delhi: Compressed natural gas (CNG) has become costlier across Delhi-NCR and other areas served by Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL). The company increased CNG prices by ₹3.89 per kilogram, with the revised rates taking effect from 6 am on Saturday, August 29. Delhi’s CNG price has risen from ₹83.09 to ₹86.98 per kg.
IGL attributed the increase to elevated international liquefied natural gas (LNG) prices. A significant portion of the gas supplied to the CNG segment is sourced through imported LNG, making retail rates sensitive to global energy-market movements.
According to the company, the latest calibrated revision was necessary to partly offset higher input-gas costs while maintaining a reliable supply to consumers.

The latest hike will increase running costs for CNG car owners, auto-rickshaw drivers, taxi operators and goods carriers. If higher fuel costs continue, passenger and freight charges could also face upward pressure.
CNG prices vary between cities because of factors including state taxes, transportation expenses, gas-sourcing costs and local distribution charges.
