Ranchi: The Jharkhand government has accepted a major demand of protesting students and decided to cancel the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission Combined Graduate Level (JSSC-CGL) examination, along with other recruitment examinations conducted by TSR Data Processing Private Limited (TDPL). The decision comes after weeks of student protests over alleged irregularities and concerns about transparency in the state’s recruitment process.
Chief Minister Hemant Soren announced the decision following a Cabinet meeting. The government has also ordered a comprehensive inquiry into alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations conducted since 2014, widening the scope of the investigation beyond the controversial JSSC-CGL examination.
JSSC-CGL Exam Cancelled
The JSSC-CGL examination had become a major point of contention among government-job aspirants. Students had been protesting in Ranchi, raising questions over the fairness and integrity of the recruitment process and demanding an independent investigation.
The latest government decision means that examinations, results and selections linked to TDPL will be scrapped as part of the action announced by the state. The move is aimed at addressing concerns surrounding the recruitment process and restoring confidence among candidates.
However, the cancellation has also created uncertainty for candidates who had already cleared the JSSC-CGL examination. Reports indicate that around 2,000 candidates could be affected by the decision, raising questions about their future and the government’s next steps regarding fresh recruitment.
Students Continue to Demand CBI Probe
The government’s announcement has provided a major boost to the protesting students, but their demands are not completely settled. Student leaders have continued to insist on a CBI investigation into the alleged irregularities. The government, meanwhile, has announced a broader inquiry into recruitment examinations dating back to 2014.
The protest had intensified in recent weeks, with student leader Devendra Nath Mahto undertaking a hunger strike. Following the cancellation of the JSSC-CGL examination and the TDPL-linked recruitment processes, Mahto ended his hunger strike and described the government’s decision as a major victory for students.
The controversy has put the spotlight on the need for greater transparency, accountability and stronger safeguards in government recruitment examinations. The outcome of the government’s inquiry and the mechanism adopted for conducting fresh examinations will now be closely watched by thousands of aspirants across Jharkhand.
