Nanded: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal was injured in a sharp-weapon attack at a gurdwara in Nanded, Maharashtra, on Thursday. According to reports, Badal sustained a wound of around 5 centimetres and was taken for medical treatment. Officials said his condition was stable. A police officer who was also injured in the incident was reported to be stable as well.
The incident occurred when Badal was visiting the gurdwara. According to preliminary reports, a man dressed in Nihang attire approached the SAD leader and attacked him with a sharp-edged weapon. Security personnel and others present at the site intervened quickly, preventing the situation from escalating further. One person has been detained in connection with the incident and an investigation is underway.
Police Begin Investigation
The attack has prompted authorities to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident and the security arrangements at the religious site. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has ordered a probe into the attack, while police are investigating the motive and sequence of events.
