The para shot putter clinched the gold medal in the women’s F57 shot put event with a season-best throw of 9.81 metres, ending India’s 20-year wait for a para athletics medal at the Games.
Sharmila’s historic victory marked one of India’s biggest highlights of the competition and added another gold to the country’s growing medal tally.
Sarvesh Kushare Bags High Jump Silver
Indian high jumper Sarvesh Kushare secured the silver medal in the men’s high jump after clearing 2.25 metres at the Scotstoun Stadium. He narrowly missed the gold after failing three attempts at 2.28 metres, finishing behind Jamaica’s Romaine Beckford, who claimed the top podium spot.
