The United States has carried out a fresh round of airstrikes targeting Iranian military surveillance facilities, communication networks, and air defence systems, further escalating tensions in the Middle East despite ongoing diplomatic efforts to end the conflict.
According to the US Central Command (CENTCOM), the strikes were conducted by the US Air Force, Navy, and Marine forces against multiple military targets across Iran. The operation came shortly after US President Donald Trump warned Tehran that it would face consequences for delaying negotiations aimed at ending hostilities.
CENTCOM stated that the attacks were launched in response to what it described as Iran’s “continued aggression” and emphasized that US forces remain prepared for further action if necessary.
The latest strikes follow a series of Iranian attacks targeting US military installations in Bahrain, Kuwait, and Jordan, all countries that host American troops. Missile sirens were reported in Bahrain early Thursday, raising concerns about a broader regional conflict.
Iranian media reported explosions in several southern cities, including Bandar Abbas, Sirik, and Minab, although officials have yet to provide details on casualties or damage.
The renewed exchange of attacks marks the third major violation of a fragile two-month ceasefire that has struggled to hold amid mounting military pressure from both sides.
President Trump has repeatedly urged Iran to agree to a peace deal, claiming earlier this week that an agreement could be reached within days. However, Iran’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, rejected US threats and insisted that Tehran would not negotiate under pressure.
Analysts believe both Washington and Tehran are seeking an exit from the conflict while attempting to maintain political leverage at home. Iran continues to view its strategic position near the Strait of Hormuz as a critical bargaining tool, given the waterway’s importance to global oil and gas shipments.
Meanwhile, regional tensions remain high as Israel continues military operations against Iranian-backed groups, further complicating efforts to restore stability in the region.
