Mumbai: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a 16-member Indian squad for the upcoming T20I tours of England and Ireland, with Shreyas Iyer appointed as the new captain of the national side.
The decision marks a significant leadership change as Iyer replaces Suryakumar Yadav at the helm of India’s T20I team. Young batter Tilak Varma has been named vice-captain for the tour.
One of the biggest highlights of the squad announcement is the maiden call-up for teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who earned selection after a stellar IPL 2026 campaign in which he emerged as the tournament’s leading run-scorer. Promising youngster Prince Yadav has also been included in the squad.
The squad was finalized during a meeting of the Men’s Selection Committee headed by Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar and attended by BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai.
Apart from finalizing the T20I squad for the England and Ireland tours, the selectors also discussed preparations for the upcoming Asian Games in Japan and India A’s multi-day tour of Sri Lanka.
The appointment of Shreyas Iyer signals the beginning of a new era for India’s T20 setup as the team looks to build momentum ahead of major international tournaments. Fans will also be eager to see how newcomers Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Prince Yadav perform on the international stage after their impressive domestic and IPL performances.
