Veteran author Shobhaa De has strongly defended Bollywood star Ranveer Singh amid the ongoing controversy surrounding his reported exit from Don 3.
Reacting to the recent “non-cooperation directive” issued against the actor, Shobhaa De termed the entire episode an “ugly conspiracy” and suggested that the controversy extends beyond Ranveer to target filmmaker Aditya Dhar and the blockbuster Dhurandhar franchise.
‘Ranveer’s Silence Has Strengthened His Brand’
In an Instagram reel posted on Wednesday, Shobhaa praised Ranveer Singh’s decision to remain silent amid the controversy.
She stated that the actor’s refusal to engage publicly in the dispute has only enhanced his popularity and public image.
“Ranveer Singh is sensible, clever and well-advised. By maintaining silence, he has successfully enhanced his own brand appeal and popularity,” she said.
Earlier, Ranveer’s team had issued a statement saying the actor would continue to maintain a “dignified silence” despite growing speculation over his abrupt departure from Don 3.
What Triggered the Controversy?
The controversy escalated after the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) issued a non-cooperation directive against Ranveer Singh.
The action reportedly followed the actor’s alleged failure to appear before the body in connection with a complaint filed by Excel Entertainment, headed by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani.
The complaint pertains to Ranveer’s sudden exit from Don 3 in December, just weeks before overseas production was reportedly set to begin.
Ranveer’s representatives have maintained that FWICE has no jurisdiction over the matter.
Shobhaa De Calls It an ‘Ugly Conspiracy’
Shobhaa De argued that the controversy reflects a larger power struggle within the entertainment industry.
According to her, the issue affects not just Ranveer Singh but also the entire ecosystem connected to Dhurandhar, including director Aditya Dhar and the production team.
She described Ranveer as an “iconic movie star” and credited the massive success of Dhurandhar, which reportedly crossed Rs 3000 crore worldwide, to the actor-director collaboration.
CINTAA Also Questions FWICE Action
Adding another twist to the controversy, Cine and TV Artists Association President Poonam Dhillon reportedly called FWICE’s action “strange.”
She suggested that Ranveer Singh should have approached CINTAA for support if there was a professional dispute.
‘Who Is FWICE?’ Shobhaa Questions Film Body’s Relevance
Shobhaa De also questioned FWICE’s role in the matter, claiming the organization was unnecessarily inserting itself into what should have remained a legal dispute between Ranveer Singh and Excel Entertainment.
She argued that such actions could hurt not only the actor but also technicians and workers dependent on large-scale film productions.
Ranveer Singh’s Upcoming Projects Under Spotlight
Despite the controversy, Ranveer Singh remains one of Bollywood’s biggest stars.
His association with Dhurandhar and his future projects continue to draw massive attention, while industry insiders are closely watching how the dispute impacts his professional commitments.
For now, the actor continues to remain silent, allowing speculation to grow while supporters rally behind him.
