Ranbir Kapoor transforms into Lord Ram in a new Ramayana BTS video released on his birthday. The Nitesh Tiwari film arrives in November 2026.
The makers of Ramayana have released a new behind-the-scenes video showing Ranbir Kapoor’s transformation into Lord Ram for director Nitesh Tiwari’s ambitious mythological epic.
Unveiled on Ranbir Kapoor’s 44th birthday on September 28, 2026, the video explores the physical training, costume preparation and sense of responsibility involved in portraying one of the most revered figures in Indian culture.
Ranbir Kapoor Calls Lord Ram Role a Responsibility
In the video, Ranbir says he approached the character as a responsibility rather than simply another acting opportunity.
The footage shows him training for action sequences, practising archery and working closely with the film’s creative team. Director Nitesh Tiwari explains that casting Lord Ram required an actor capable of conveying strength, dignity, compassion and emotional restraint.
International movement and action specialist Terry Notary reportedly helped train Ranbir for the film’s demanding physical sequences. The production also brought together stunt performers and technical specialists from different countries.
The official first-look announcement previously quoted Ranbir as saying that he did not see himself as representing Lord Ram but as learning from him. He described understanding the character’s simplicity and purity as a humbling experience.
Sai Pallavi Was ‘Awestruck’ by Ranbir’s Look
Sai Pallavi, who plays Sita, says in the BTS video that Ranbir’s appearance reminded her of the traditional image of Lord Ram she had imagined since childhood.
The actress recalled being “awestruck” when she first saw him in costume. The video also includes glimpses of Ranbir interacting with director Nitesh Tiwari and veteran actor Arun Govil, who became widely known for playing Lord Ram in Ramanand Sagar’s television series.
According to the latest production details, the principal cast includes Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Sunny Deol as Hanuman and Ravie Dubey as Lakshman.
Arun Govil, Lara Dutta, Kunal Kapoor, Rakul Preet Singh and Vivek Oberoi are also part of the ensemble.
‘Ramayana’ Planned as Two-Part Global Epic
Produced by Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios in association with DNEG and Yash’s Monster Mind Creations, Ramayana has been designed as a two-part cinematic franchise.
The production combines Indian storytelling with large-scale visual effects and international technical talent. Malhotra has said the project is intended for audiences worldwide while retaining the emotional and cultural foundations of the ancient epic.
Reuters previously reported that the two films have a combined budget of up to $500 million, potentially making the project one of the most expensive productions in Indian cinema.
Ramayana: Part One is scheduled to reach cinemas on November 6, 2026, during the Diwali season. The second instalment is expected in 2027.
The film will be released in multiple Indian languages and is also being prepared for international audiences. Its promotional campaign has included character reveals, trailers, music launches and footage presented at global entertainment events.
The newly released BTS video further positions Ranbir Kapoor’s performance as the emotional centre of the first film while highlighting the scale of the production behind his portrayal.
