Stuttgart: Porsche has officially revealed the all-new 911 GT4 R, a purpose-built customer race car developed for GT4 competition around the world. Designed to replace the successful 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport, the new machine combines the iconic 911 platform with enhanced performance, improved aerodynamics, and lower operating costs for professional and amateur racing teams alike.
The 911 GT4 R has been engineered specifically for customer motorsport programs and is expected to make its competitive debut in the 2026 racing season. Porsche says the car has undergone extensive testing to ensure reliability, durability, and ease of maintenance across endurance and sprint racing formats.
Powering the new race car is a naturally aspirated 4.0-litre flat-six boxer engine that produces approximately 500 horsepower, delivering strong performance while complying with GT4 racing regulations. The engine is paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch (PDK) transmission optimized for track use, offering quicker gear changes and improved efficiency during competitive racing.
Porsche has significantly upgraded the vehicle’s aerodynamics with a redesigned front splitter, larger rear wing, optimized air intakes, and improved cooling systems. These enhancements increase downforce and stability while maintaining balance at high speeds on a variety of race circuits.
The chassis has also been refined with race-specific suspension, adjustable dampers, upgraded braking systems, and enhanced driver ergonomics. Engineers focused on making the car easier to set up and operate, allowing customer teams to maximize performance with reduced maintenance requirements.
Safety remains a key priority in the 911 GT4 R. The race car features an FIA-compliant roll cage, advanced fire suppression system, racing seat, six-point harness, and reinforced cockpit structure to meet international motorsport safety standards.
According to Porsche Motorsport, the new GT4 R was developed using valuable feedback from racing teams competing with previous GT4 models across international championships. The company aims to provide customers with a competitive package capable of succeeding in endurance races as well as regional GT4 series.
The launch underscores Porsche’s continued commitment to customer racing, an area where the German manufacturer has built a strong reputation through models such as the 911 GT3 Cup and GT3 R. The 911 GT4 R is expected to compete in numerous GT4 championships across Europe, North America, Asia, and other international markets.
