Minecraft’s latest Java Edition update, 26.2 Chaos Cubed, has officially arrived, introducing one of the game’s biggest content expansions in recent years. The update adds a brand-new underground biome, a unique shape-shifting mob called the Sulfur Cube, new blocks, music tracks, social features, and major performance improvements.
Sulfur Cube Becomes Minecraft’s Most Unique Mob Yet
The headline feature of the Chaos Cubed update is the Sulfur Cube, a new creature found inside the Sulfur Caves biome. Unlike any existing mob, the Sulfur Cube can absorb blocks from players and transform its abilities based on the block it consumes.
Different block types grant special traits, including bouncing with wood blocks, sliding quickly with ice, floating lightly with wool, becoming sticky with honeycomb, dealing damage with magma blocks, and turning explosive when fed TNT.
Players can remove absorbed blocks using shears, while small Sulfur Cubes can grow larger when fed slimeballs. Large variants can even be collected using an empty bucket.
New Sulfur Caves Biome Added
The update introduces the Sulfur Caves, a new underground biome featuring sulfur deposits, cinnabar formations, sulfur pools, cave spiders, and naturally spawning Sulfur Cubes.
Sulfur Springs now generate on the surface above these caves in multiple sizes, creating new exploration opportunities for players.
New Blocks and Environmental Features
Mojang has added complete Sulfur and Cinnabar block sets, including polished variants, bricks, stairs, slabs, walls, and decorative blocks.
A new block called Potent Sulfur can create geysers when placed beneath water above magma or lava. It also produces toxic gas clouds that cause nausea effects to nearby players.
Another addition, the Sulfur Spike, functions as a new stalactite and stalagmite block capable of growing naturally and falling under certain conditions.
Friends List Finally Arrives
One of the most requested social features is now available through a dedicated Friends List system.
Players can send, accept, and manage friend requests directly from the title screen or pause menu. The feature displays friends’ online status across LAN worlds, servers, Realms, and single-player sessions.
New notification settings and privacy controls have also been added.
New Music and Advancement
The update introduces a new music disc titled Bounce by fingerspit, which can be found inside mineshaft chest minecarts located within Sulfur Caves.
Five new ambient music tracks have also been added:
- Shores
- Memories
- Nightly
- Home
- Ebb
Players can unlock a new advancement called “Uh Oh” by allowing a Sulfur Cube to absorb a TNT block.
Experimental Vulkan Support Added
Minecraft Java Edition now includes experimental Vulkan graphics support, giving players the option to choose between OpenGL and Vulkan through the graphics settings menu.
While Vulkan is not enabled by default, Mojang has indicated that it represents the future direction of Minecraft’s rendering technology.
Major Gameplay Changes and Fixes
Several gameplay adjustments arrive with the update:
- Hoglins are now classified as hostile mobs and no longer spawn on Peaceful difficulty.
- Beds are slightly bouncier for parity with Bedrock Edition.
- Touchscreen Mode has been removed.
- World hosts can now directly access Game Mode and Allow Commands options.
The update also addresses numerous bugs, including performance drops caused by banners and particles, multiplayer command-spam issues, world upgrade crashes, dolphin AI problems, bee behavior glitches, visual flickering, and world border reset errors.
A Strong Update for Minecraft Players
With the addition of the Sulfur Caves biome, the innovative Sulfur Cube mob, Friends List integration, Vulkan support, and dozens of fixes, Minecraft Java Edition 26.2 Chaos Cubed delivers one of the most feature-rich updates the sandbox game has received in years.
