Gulveer Singh Creates History
Long-distance runner Gulveer Singh scripted history by becoming the first Indian to win a Commonwealth Games medal in the men’s 10,000m event, clinching a silver medal after a determined performance in Glasgow. His achievement marks a significant milestone for Indian athletics and adds another chapter to the country’s growing success in track events.
Harjinder Kaur Adds Another Silver
Weightlifter Harjinder Kaur delivered another podium finish for India by winning silver in the women’s 69kg category with a combined lift of 227kg, continuing India’s impressive run in weightlifting at the Games.
Boxers Guarantee More Medals
India’s boxing contingent also enjoyed a successful outing, with Priya Ghanghas, Preeti Pawar, and Jadumani Singh advancing to the semi-finals, thereby guaranteeing at least three more medals for the country. Earlier in the Games, Sharmila Dhankar became India’s first-ever Commonwealth Games para athletics gold medallist by winning the women’s F57 shot put, while Shilpa Shyla secured bronze in the same event. High jumper Sarvesh Kushare also earned a silver medal, and weightlifters Valluri Ajaya Babu and Gyaneshwari Yadav contributed additional silver medals to India’s tally.
