New Delhi: Google has announced a major update for NotebookLM, its AI-powered research and note-taking platform, introducing smarter research capabilities, expanded export options, and deeper integration with the latest Gemini 3.5 model.
The update is designed to make NotebookLM more powerful for students, researchers, professionals, and content creators by enabling advanced analysis, automated source discovery, and richer content generation.
Gemini 3.5 Powers Smarter Research
One of the biggest changes is the integration of Gemini 3.5, Google’s latest AI model, which improves reasoning, source analysis, and overall research accuracy. The company says the upgraded system can better understand complex topics and provide more reliable insights from uploaded documents and online sources.
Automatic Source Discovery
NotebookLM can now help users build research projects from scratch by suggesting relevant sources through Google Search integration. Previously, users had to upload their own materials before beginning research. The new feature allows the AI to identify and recommend articles, documents, and reference materials related to a topic automatically.
New Export Formats Introduced
Google has also expanded NotebookLM’s output capabilities. Users can now generate and export content in multiple formats, including presentations, spreadsheets, charts, PDFs, images, and other structured files, making it easier to turn research into ready-to-use documents.
Cloud-Based Analysis and Automation
The update introduces a secure cloud computing environment for each notebook, enabling NotebookLM to perform deeper analysis by running code and using specialized software tools. Google says this allows the platform to handle more advanced research tasks and data processing workflows.
Focus on Productivity and AI Workflows
The latest enhancements reflect Google’s broader push to integrate AI across its ecosystem. With improved reasoning, automated research assistance, and expanded export options, NotebookLM is evolving from a note-taking application into a comprehensive AI-powered research workspace.
The new features are initially rolling out to Google AI Ultra subscribers and eligible Workspace customers, with wider availability expected in the future.
