New Delhi: Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu has strongly criticized attempts to selectively interpret Punjab’s troubled history, saying the state’s painful past should not be edited to suit any political narrative.
Responding to the ongoing debate surrounding Punjab’s historical events, Bittu emphasized that the sacrifices, violence, and suffering endured by the people of Punjab deserve to be remembered in their entirety rather than being presented through a selective political lens.
The minister said that history should be approached with honesty and responsibility, warning against efforts to distort facts for short-term political gains. According to him, selectively highlighting certain events while ignoring others weakens public understanding of the state’s complex past.
Bittu stressed that Punjab has witnessed decades of hardship, including terrorism, social unrest, and immense human loss. He said these experiences must serve as lessons for future generations and should never be manipulated for partisan interests.
The Union Minister called for a balanced and factual discussion on Punjab’s history, urging political leaders and citizens alike to respect the truth and the sacrifices made during one of the state’s most difficult periods.
He reiterated that preserving historical accuracy is essential for promoting national unity, communal harmony, and lasting peace.
