Kolkata: A massive fire broke out at the Haldia Refinery in West Bengal on Tuesday, injuring several workers and triggering a large-scale emergency response. Firefighters and refinery emergency teams rushed to the site to bring the blaze under control and prevent it from spreading to nearby units.
According to officials, the fire erupted inside one of the operational sections of the refinery. Thick plumes of smoke were seen rising from the facility, prompting immediate evacuation of workers from the affected area.
The injured workers sustained burn injuries and were shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment. Officials said their condition is being closely monitored, though the exact number of those injured has not yet been officially confirmed.
Emergency response teams, including multiple fire tenders, were deployed to contain the flames. Authorities cordoned off the affected section as a precautionary measure while firefighting operations continued.
The cause of the fire remains unknown, and refinery authorities have launched an internal investigation to determine what triggered the incident. Safety protocols are also being reviewed to assess any lapses that may have contributed to the accident.
Officials said operations in unaffected sections of the refinery are being monitored, while the damaged unit will remain closed until it is declared safe.
