Mumbai: Bollywood star Sunny Deol has shared an emotional tribute to his mother, Prakash Kaur, ahead of the trailer launch of his much-awaited film Batwara 1947. The actor dedicated the Partition drama to his mother and mothers around the world, calling her his greatest source of love, courage, and strength.
Taking to Instagram, the 68-year-old actor wrote, “Meri Maa hi mera Rab hain. Mera pyaar, mera hausla, meri taaqat. Batwara 1947 main apni Maa aur duniya ki har Maa ko samarpit karta hoon. Trailer out tomorrow!” The heartfelt message quickly resonated with fans, adding an emotional touch to the film’s promotional campaign.
A Powerful Story of Partition
Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Rajkumar Santoshi and produced by Aamir Khan Productions, Batwara 1947 is set against the backdrop of the Partition of India. The film explores themes of love, sacrifice, resilience, and humanity during one of the most turbulent chapters in the country’s history.
The recently released teaser showcased scenes of communal violence, displaced families, burning homes, and Sunny Deol’s intense portrayal of Sikander Mirza, highlighting the emotional depth of the historical drama.
Star-Studded Cast
The film features an ensemble cast including Shabana Azmi, Preity G Zinta, Karan Deol, Ali Fazal, and Abhimanyu Singh in pivotal roles.
Adapted from Syed Asghar Wajahat’s acclaimed play Jis Lahore Nai Dekhya, the story follows a Muslim family that migrates from Lucknow to Lahore after Partition and unexpectedly shares a haveli with an elderly Hindu woman who refuses to leave her ancestral home. Their journey gradually transforms from conflict to compassion and coexistence.
The film’s music has been composed by A.R. Rahman, with lyrics by Javed Akhtar. Batwara 1947 has received an Adults Only (A) certification from the Central Board of Film Certification and has a runtime of 145 minutes and 34 seconds.
The official trailer is set to release on July 28, while the film will hit theatres worldwide on August 14, 2026.
