India is working to bring Formula One back to the Buddh International Circuit by 2028, with the government holding discussions with motorsport authorities to revive the Indian Grand Prix.
New Delhi: India is taking significant steps toward bringing Formula One (F1) back to the country, with the government initiating discussions to host a Grand Prix at the Buddh International Circuit (BIC) by 2028.
According to reports, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, along with other stakeholders, has begun consultations with motorsport authorities and Formula One officials to explore the possibility of reviving the event after more than a decade.
The Buddh International Circuit, located in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, hosted the Indian Grand Prix from 2011 to 2013. Despite receiving praise from drivers and fans for its world-class track, the race was discontinued due to financial, taxation, and logistical challenges.
The proposed return aligns with India’s growing focus on hosting major international sporting events and expanding its global sports footprint. Officials believe a Formula One race could boost tourism, attract international investment, and strengthen India’s reputation as a destination for elite sporting competitions.
Discussions are expected to cover commercial partnerships, infrastructure readiness, event logistics, and long-term sustainability before any formal agreement is reached with Formula One Management (FOM).
If the plan moves forward, India could once again join the prestigious Formula One calendar, bringing one of the world’s biggest motorsport events back to Indian fans after a long hiatus.
