US Secretary of State Marco Rubio visits Reliance’s Jamnagar refinery and discusses energy, technology, data centres and US–India cooperation.
Jamnagar: US Secretary of State Marco Rubio visited Reliance Industries’ Jamnagar complex in Gujarat, where he held discussions with Chairman Mukesh Ambani and Executive Director Anant Ambani on energy security, technology and potential commercial partnerships.
Rubio, accompanied by US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor, spent nearly five hours at the complex on Wednesday, October 21. The American delegation toured the refinery’s integrated operations and received briefings on Reliance’s conventional-energy business, new-energy giga factories and developing digital infrastructure.
Energy and Technology Cooperation in Focus
Reliance Industries said the discussions covered the global energy landscape and opportunities for cooperation across conventional and new-energy sectors. The two sides also discussed reliable and affordable energy supplies, technological advances, resilient supply chains and investment required to meet rising global demand.
Mukesh and Anant Ambani outlined Reliance’s plans to develop Jamnagar as a centre for deep technology, innovation and advanced manufacturing. They also explored possible collaboration with American companies in technology, engineering and industrial production.
Energy requirements for data centres and the growing relationship between digital infrastructure and dependable power supplies were also discussed. Reliance is developing a 168-megawatt data centre with Meta in Jamnagar.
Venezuelan Crude Also on Agenda
Ahead of the visit, Rubio said Washington wanted Reliance to refine more Venezuelan crude and potentially explore oil-production opportunities in Venezuela. Jamnagar’s two refineries have a combined capacity of approximately 1.4 million barrels per day and can process heavy crude grades.
The visit formed part of Rubio’s India tour, during which he also met External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and other government and business leaders. It underlined the growing strategic importance of energy, technology and investment in India–US relations.
