Amitabh Bachchan reportedly plans to build a 20-room dharamshala on his ₹15-crore Ayodhya property in memory of his father, poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan.
Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan is reportedly planning to build a memorial dharamshala in Ayodhya in honour of his late father, celebrated Hindi poet Dr Harivansh Rai Bachchan.
The proposed facility will have more than 20 rooms and is intended to provide accommodation for devotees visiting the temple city. A building-layout application has been submitted to the Ayodhya Development Authority for approval.
Dharamshala Planned on ₹15-Crore Property
The project is reportedly planned on land Bachchan acquired for approximately ₹15 crore in The Sarayu, a premium development situated along Dashrath Path in Ayodhya.
Ayodhya Development Authority Vice-Chairman Anurag Jain confirmed that an application had been received for a dharamshala containing more than 20 rooms. The authority subsequently issued a public notice inviting objections and suggestions concerning the proposed layout within 15 days.
The construction plan will be approved only after the public-notice period and other required formalities are completed. Reports suggest that work could begin in October, although the date remains dependent on regulatory clearance.
Tribute to Harivansh Rai Bachchan
The proposed dharamshala will commemorate Harivansh Rai Bachchan, one of the most influential figures in modern Hindi literature.
He is best remembered for his renowned 1935 poetic work Madhushala. The poet also translated several works of William Shakespeare into Hindi and received the Padma Bhushan for his contribution to literature.
The project is expected to combine a memorial to his literary legacy with a public-service facility for pilgrims.
Amitabh Bachchan’s Ayodhya Investments
Amitabh Bachchan, who was born in Prayagraj, has made several reported property investments in Ayodhya.
The actor reportedly purchased a 15,000-square-foot plot for around ₹15 crore after telling developer Abhinandan Lodha that he wanted to own land in Ayodhya because of his connection with Uttar Pradesh.
Reports have also linked the Bachchan family and the Harivansh Rai Bachchan Memorial Trust with other land purchases around the city. These are separate transactions and should not be confused with the property identified in reports about the proposed dharamshala.
Neither Bachchan nor his representatives have issued a detailed public statement outlining the project’s construction schedule. The development therefore remains subject to the Ayodhya Development Authority’s final approval.
