Tilottama Sen, Vidarsa Vinod and Ashi Chouksey won the women’s 50m rifle 3 positions team silver for India at the 2026 Asian Games.
India’s Tilottama Sen, Vidarsa Vinod Kochalumkal and Ashi Chouksey won the silver medal in the women’s 50m rifle 3 positions team event at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.
The Indian shooters registered a combined qualification score of 1,763 points, finishing 10 points behind China. The Chinese team equalled its Asian Games record with 1,773 points to claim gold, while Kazakhstan secured bronze with 1,754.
Tilottama and Vidarsa also advanced to the eight-shooter individual final but narrowly missed the podium, finishing fourth and fifth respectively.
Tilottama Sen Leads India in Qualification
Tilottama produced India’s highest individual qualification score, finishing third with 590 points.
She began with 197 in the kneeling position before scoring 198 in prone. Tilottama then maintained her form during the more demanding standing stage, recording series of 97 and 98 to qualify comfortably for the medal round.
Only two Chinese competitors finished above her during qualification, scoring 594 and 591.
Vidarsa Vinod Stages Strong Comeback
Vidarsa recovered impressively after a difficult kneeling section in which she scored 193 points.
The Kerala shooter responded with an outstanding 199 in prone before producing consecutive 98-point series in standing. Her total of 588 lifted her to sixth place and secured India’s second position in the individual final.
The team silver was Vidarsa’s second medal at the Aichi-Nagoya Games. She had earlier combined with Elavenil Valarivan and Sonam Uttam Maskar to win silver in the women’s 10m air rifle team competition.
Ashi Chouksey Makes Vital Team Contribution
Ashi finished 15th individually with 585 points and did not qualify for the final, but her performance was crucial to India’s team medal.
She scored 196 in kneeling and an impressive 199 in prone. A 93 in her opening standing series affected her individual qualification hopes, although she recovered with a 97 in the final series.
The combined performances of Tilottama, Vidarsa and Ashi gave India its latest shooting medal of the Games.
Tilottama and Vidarsa Miss Individual Medal
Tilottama emerged as a strong gold-medal contender during the individual final and briefly moved to the top of the standings after producing an excellent opening standing series.
She held a narrow 0.3-point advantage at a decisive stage but slipped out of the medal positions after registering 9.4 on a crucial shot. Tilottama eventually finished fourth, while Vidarsa placed fifth.
Their performances left India just outside the individual medals but completed another productive day for the country’s shooting contingent.
How the 50m Rifle 3 Positions Event Works
The event tests shooters in three positions—kneeling, prone and standing—from a distance of 50 metres.
The team medals are determined by adding the qualification scores of all three shooters from each country. The leading eligible competitors in qualification then progress to the individual final, where shooters are eliminated in stages until the medal positions are decided.
India’s silver in the women’s team event followed another second-place finish in the men’s 50m rifle 3 positions competition, underlining the country’s consistent rifle-shooting performance at the Games.
