Akshay Kumar joins Ajay Devgn and the returning Golmaal gang in Rohit Shetty’s Golmaal 5, scheduled to release on January 8, 2027.
Akshay Kumar has joined the cast of Rohit Shetty’s Golmaal 5, marking his first appearance in the filmmaker’s long-running comedy franchise.
The fifth instalment will continue to be led by Ajay Devgn and is scheduled for theatrical release on January 8, 2027. Filming has already begun in Ooty, with the original gang returning nearly a decade after Golmaal Again arrived in cinemas in 2017.
Akshay’s inclusion adds a major new name to the ensemble and reunites him with Shetty after their collaborations on Sooryavanshi and other films connected to the director’s cop universe.
Ajay Devgn Remains the Franchise Lead
Akshay has clarified that he is not replacing Ajay Devgn as the central character. He said Ajay remains the hero of the Golmaal franchise and indicated that he was comfortable contributing to an ensemble project without occupying the lead position.
Several reports have suggested that Akshay will play an antagonist with a comic edge, creating a rivalry with Ajay’s character. However, the filmmakers have not yet officially disclosed his role or released detailed information about the plot.
Earlier reports indicated that Akshay had allocated approximately 18 days for filming his portions. Any additional details about his character remain subject to confirmation from the production team.
Original ‘Golmaal’ Gang Returns
Ajay Devgn will be joined by franchise regulars Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor, Shreyas Talpade and Kunal Kemmu.
Sharman Joshi is also returning to the series after appearing as Laxman in the original Golmaal: Fun Unlimited in 2006. He was absent from the subsequent three films, making his comeback one of the sequel’s biggest attractions.
The announced cast and January 2027 release date were reported by the Times of India.
Golmaal 5 will arrive during the comedy series’ 20th-anniversary period. The franchise began in 2006 and was followed by Golmaal Returns, Golmaal 3 and the supernatural comedy Golmaal Again.
Details about the female cast, storyline and Akshay’s exact character have not yet been formally revealed. The makers are expected to announce more information as production progresses.
