Ganesh Chaturthi 2026 is being celebrated across India on Monday, September 14, marking the beginning of Ganeshotsav—the festival dedicated to Lord Ganesha, revered as the remover of obstacles and the deity of wisdom, prosperity and new beginnings.
The date is also listed in the 2026 religious calendar published by Mumbai’s Shree Siddhivinayak Ganapati Temple.
Devotees are welcoming beautifully decorated idols of Lord Ganesha into their homes and community pandals. Major celebrations are taking place across Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, along with several other parts of India.
Ganesh Chaturthi 2026 Puja Muhurat
According to commonly followed panchang calculations for New Delhi, the Chaturthi Tithi begins at approximately 7:06 a.m. on September 14 and ends at 7:44 a.m. on September 15.
The Madhyahna Ganesh Puja Muhurat is from approximately 11:02 a.m. to 1:31 p.m. on September 14. Timings may differ slightly between cities because they are calculated according to local sunrise and geographical location. Devotees should check their regional panchang for precise timings.
During Ganpati Sthapana, devotees clean and decorate the worship area before installing the idol. Traditional offerings include durva grass, red flowers, coconut, fruits and modaks—considered Lord Ganesha’s favourite sweet.
Families perform prayers, chant Ganesh mantras and conclude the worship with an aarti and distribution of prasad.
Ganesh Visarjan 2026 Date
Ganeshotsav will culminate with Ganesh Visarjan on Anant Chaturdashi, Friday, September 25, 2026. Some families may perform immersion after one-and-a-half, three, five or seven days according to their traditions.
Large public processions are expected in cities including Mumbai, Pune and Hyderabad. Authorities generally issue traffic diversions and safety guidelines for major immersion routes.
Environmental groups and civic bodies continue to encourage devotees to choose natural clay idols, use non-toxic colours, avoid plastic decorations and perform immersion at designated artificial ponds wherever possible.
Ganesh Chaturthi brings families and communities together through prayer, music, cultural programmes and the joyful chants of “Ganpati Bappa Morya.”
