Shahid Kapoor is back in Mumbai and has resumed filming for the much-awaited second season of the hit crime thriller Farzi. The actor recently returned from an Italy holiday and has quickly switched back into work mode, joining the latest outdoor shooting schedule of the series.
Kapoor’s return to the sets is significant for fans who have been eagerly waiting for the next chapter of Farzi. The actor is set to reprise his popular role as Sunny, the talented but financially frustrated artist who enters the world of counterfeit currency. His performance was one of the major highlights of the first season, which premiered in 2023 and developed a strong following on Prime Video.
Farzi 2 Production Underway
The second season was officially confirmed by creators Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK earlier this year. The filmmakers announced that the new season was a work in progress, putting an end to years of speculation about whether the crime thriller would return.
Shahid Kapoor had already begun shooting for Farzi 2 in March 2026. At the time, the actor shared behind-the-scenes glimpses with Raj and DK and teased his return as Sunny. The production has now progressed further, with Kapoor resuming filming after his recent break in Italy.
According to recent reports, Kapoor is currently involved in an outdoor Mumbai schedule. His quick return to the sets suggests that the production is moving ahead with an active shooting timetable.
Shahid Kapoor’s Return as Sunny
Sunny became one of Shahid Kapoor’s most talked-about streaming characters after the first season of Farzi. The character’s transformation from an artist struggling to keep his grandfather’s printing press alive to a counterfeiting mastermind formed the central storyline of the series.
The first season ended on a major cliffhanger, leaving several questions surrounding Sunny’s future, his counterfeit operation and his confrontation with the authorities. Vijay Sethupathi’s Michael Vedanayagam is also an important part of the series’ crime-versus-law narrative, making the next season highly anticipated.
While specific plot details for Season 2 remain closely guarded, Shahid has previously indicated that the upcoming season aims to take the story to another level. The creators have also teased a bigger continuation of the world established in the first season.
When Will Farzi 2 Release?
There is still no officially confirmed premiere date for Farzi 2. However, Shahid Kapoor said in June that, if everything goes according to plan, the second season should arrive in 2027.
For now, the focus remains on completing production. With Shahid Kapoor back on set and filming continuing in Mumbai, expectations around Farzi 2 are growing rapidly.
