Washington, D.C.: US President Donald Trump has announced what he described as a “historic” agreement aimed at the complete disarmament of Hamas and other armed groups in Gaza, calling it a major breakthrough toward achieving lasting peace and stability in the region.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump said the agreement would see Hamas disarmed in carefully structured phases, followed by the gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces and the deployment of an International Stabilization Force (ISF) to help maintain security.
Phased Disarmament Under Peace Plan
According to Trump, the second phase of the proposed Gaza peace plan focuses on dismantling Hamas’ military capabilities while transferring governance responsibilities to a new National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG), a technocratic body expected to oversee the territory during its transition.
The plan also envisions the creation of a new Palestinian police force, supported by the multinational stabilization mission, to ensure law and order after the conflict.
Hamas Signals Progress in Negotiations
Senior Hamas officials told international media that negotiations have produced agreements on the issue of weapons and a gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces from parts of the Gaza Strip.
However, Hamas has reportedly proposed amendments to certain provisions of the roadmap and is awaiting Israel’s response through international mediators.
Israel Yet to Issue Official Response
Israel has not released an official statement on Trump’s announcement. Israeli officials have consistently maintained that the complete disarmament of Hamas and the demilitarization of Gaza remain essential conditions for any long-term political settlement.
Reports indicate that Israeli negotiators are still reviewing the latest proposals submitted through mediators.
Ceasefire Talks Continue Amid Violence
Despite ongoing diplomatic efforts, violence has continued in Gaza. Local health authorities reported that fresh Israeli strikes killed several people, including children, underscoring the fragile nature of the current ceasefire.
Egypt is expected to host another round of negotiations involving mediators from the United States, Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey, with discussions focused on implementing the next phase of the ceasefire agreement and advancing a broader political settlement.
While Trump’s announcement has raised hopes for progress, key issues—including Hamas’ disarmament, Israel’s security concerns, and the implementation of governance arrangements—remain under negotiation.
